But where do you go from a one-on-one fight? Simple. Haloid was awesome that’s pretty much fact. Haloid left its mark and pretty much made Monty’s name on the web, but little did we know he wasn’t done yet. It was just fun too, since the fight ended with the two teaming up to fight the Covenant and a surprise twist that I shan’t spoil in case you haven’t seen it yet. It was insane and my mind was blown on my first viewing. Monty took them at their strongest and just went all out in fact, he made them even more powerful with borderline superhuman feats. In their respective games, Master Chief and Samus were restricted to what they could do and how they could move. There have probably been several fanfics based on that, but there’s a huge difference between reading about a fight between two bad-ass space warriors and watching it, especially since Monty’s interpretation of this fight could not be put into words. The idea itself is a simple one – Master Chief VS Samus. I was barely familiar with either Metroid or Halo, but I don’t think I had ever seen anything like it. I can’t quite remember how I first found out about Haloid I think I just stumbled across it during my early days with the Internet. And if you’ve never seen his stuff before, prepare to be surprised. So, I hope you’ll all join me as I reminisce over some of Monty’s past work. I’ve been seeing a lot of tributes to him over the last few days (mostly artwork) so I thought that I should probably do something too. I never met him but it’s clear that he touched a lot of people the fact that even complete strangers on the Internet mourn his passing shows how much of an impact he left on his family, friends, co-workers, fans and anyone who was familiar with his work. His death was sudden and shocking even as I write this, I still find it hard to believe that he’s gone. He passed away at 4:24 P.M on February 1, 2015.Earlier this week on February 1 st, infamous online animator Monty Oum tragically passed away. The doctors operated on him and Monty fell into a coma for 10 days. On January 22, 2015, Monty was rushed to the hospital due to a severe allergic reaction. Monty brought on Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross to write the animated series.
This project would later be known as RWBY. After working hours on end on RvB, Burnie Burns and Matt Hullum decided to give him his own project. He started to animate in Season 8 of the show that started Rooster Teeth, Red v Blue. A year later at PAX East 2010, he was announced to be working at Rooster Teeth. In 2009, he met Burnie Burns at a SDCC International panel. Afterwards, he worked at Midway Games as a combat designer and then worked at Namco Games as a combat designer and animator for Afro Samurai. He dropped out of high school around 2002 and started creating fan videos. According to Monty Oum on his twitter, he said that he was "Cambodian, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese" of descent. He was born on June 22nd, 1981 in Providence, Rhode Island. Oum suffered a severe allergic reaction during a medical procedure and fell into a coma on January 22, 2015.

After Oum announced that he had started working for Rooster Teeth, the series was put on hold. He released five episodes of Dead Fantasy, a preview of an additional episode and two music videos featuring the heroines of the series. In October of the same year, he released the first video in his Dead Fantasy fan series which, like Haloid, featured fantastical combat sequences between characters from two different established games series (this time Dead or Alive and Final Fantasy). The video has received more than 4 million views and is the most watched user-created content on the site.

Oum attracted attention within the gaming community after releasing the hit video Haloid in 2007 on GameTrailers, which a Destructoid article called "the most interesting Halo-related fan movie in existence". A self-taught animator, he scripted and produced several crossover fighting video series, drawing the attention of internet production company Rooster Teeth, who hired him.
